Philippe’s main focus is on tax controversy in which he defends clients before all Belgian and European Courts.


This means for example assisting clients during tax audits (from start to finish), defending clients during criminal tax investigations (including money laundering), voluntary tax disclosures, TP-audits, guiding clients through the complex maze of tax laws, etc.


Very often he advises clients in general corporate income tax planning and VAT law. 


Philippe Renier started his career at Tiberghien law firm, worked for six years in the tax controversy department of Laga and lead for many years the tax controversy practice of HVG (Ernst & Young).


Philippe has published numerous tax related articles in matters that concern national and international tax litigation. Philippe is a member of the International Fiscal Association, and regularly lectures on specialized tax seminars. Furthermore, he lectures the subject tax procedural law at the University of Brussels (Odisee) and is linked to the University of Hasselt as a voluntary researcher in the area of tax law. Philippe litigated the following cases before the ECJ: C-499/05 and C-68/15. He also successfully defended cases before the Belgian Constitutional Court.


He is a Dutch native speaker, is fluent in French and English and proficient in Spanish.
